Claire is delighted to be the outdoor intern for the 2015/2016 school year. She moved to Bainbridge Island all the way from St. Petersburg, Florida to pursue her passion for learning and teaching outdoor skills. She is most excited about meeting other people who enjoy exploring nature just as much as she does and experiencing life-changing adventures with them.

What experiences led you to decide to work in the outdoor field?

When I worked as an adventure trip leader for USF Outdoor Recreation, I had the opportunity to lead other students on a couple of backpacking trips through the Southeast. I’ll never forget one particular hike in the Smokey Mountains. We were walking along the ridge in absolutely beautiful weather and the views were simply epic. I had never felt so connected to nature and happy to be alive. I knew from that moment on that I wanted to do everything I could to experience that feeling again and again.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Meeting people with refreshing ideas about outdoor recreation and being inspired by them to work harder towards my goals.

Where is your happy place?

Besides when I’m exhausted, sweaty, and exhilarated at the top of a mountain, when I’m snuggling with my cat, Maizy.
