April is Earth Month, and as you can imagine, we are excited to spotlight the many opportunities to engage our community in stewardship. Throughout the month, we host various Earth Month work parties at our parks, where volunteers can pitch in to help improve the health of our local green spaces. One of the key highlights this month is the Earth Day Expo at Battle Point Park, offering an exciting chance to connect with local businesses, organizations, and conservation efforts. All of that with a lively atmosphere featuring live music, delicious food, and hands-on activities. This event celebrates eco-friendly products and conservation initiatives. It allows you to roll up your sleeves and make a real impact in preserving our island’s natural resources for generations.
As we look toward the future, it’s clear that the strength of our Parks and Recreation District lies in the power of collaboration. Together, we’ve built a foundation of stewardship that allows our community to enjoy the parks, community, and recreational spaces we hold dear.
As we continue to grow, we must ensure our Park District evolves to meet the needs of all islanders. That’s why I’m excited to announce the Comprehensive Plan Update launch, a unique opportunity for you to contribute to the future of our parks, trails, recreation programs, and open spaces.
Over the next year, we’ll work together through a three-stage process to set long-term priorities. The plan will reflect your voices, guide investments in existing and new parks, and strengthen programs in partnership with local organizations. Whether you want new trails, recreational facilities, or improved access, this plan will drive the Park District’s future.
Our Kick-Off Event at the Earth Expo on April 26 at Battle Point Park is your first chance to get involved. From there, we’ll move into educational events, visioning workshops, and public surveys to gather feedback and ideas.
The Comprehensive Plan Update will ensure our parks continue to grow in a way that reflects the needs of our vibrant, diverse community. I encourage you to participate and help us build a park system that serves us all.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to preserve and enhance the spaces that make Bainbridge Island special.
