The girls Bainbridge Island gymnastic team was founded in 1981 under the direction of Jean welch and has been growing strong ever since. The girls team practices year round and its members ages range from 6 to 18 years old. The team competes in Level 3-10 in the Junior Olympic program of USA Gymnastics. Placement onto the team is through invitation only by the coaching staff.

Jason Balangue has spent his life training in a variety of sports, most notably Martial Arts. He has trained for many years in acrobatics, gymnastics and dance as well. From 1999-2004 he worked for the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District Gymnastics program teaching classes as well as coaching the girls team levels 4-7. In 2004, Jason decided to search for a new path in life and left to do some modeling and acting in the Philippines. After a short time away, he realized that he missed coaching gymnastics and training people to be physically fit, so in 2006, he returned to Washington to become a Personal Trainer. He received a degree from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) in Physical Fitness and Nutrition. He trained many top athletes from a variety of sports (Collegiate and Professional), as well as bodybuilders. In early 2008 he was given the opportunity to come back to the BIMPRD Gymnastics Program working with the Hot Shots and Girls levels 4 and 5. Jason’s favorite event to coach is Floor. Jason is best known for not allowing anyone to use the word CAN’T during practice.

Katie Rochon started gymnastics when she was 10 years old. She competed up to level 8 and did 4 years of high school gymnastics. She was selected for the Washington high school national team. Katie started coaching her senior year in high school and has been coaching ever since. In June of 2016, she joined the BIMPRD team
Compulsory Girls Team Coach
Megan Kelly was in gymnastics for 12 years and has been coaching for six years. Her favorite event as a gymnast was Balance Beam. Her favorite event to coach is Vault. Megan did gymnastics competitively at Zero Gravity Athletics for about three years before retiring from the sport.
