The Cave Family Heritage Park totals .91 acres and includes a natural play structure for young children, a picnic table, benches, and historic two-story home.
The Cave House is one of a diminishing number of Bainbridge Island houses over 100 years old. The house itself has unusual physical integrity because it has no obvious additions, no new windows or doors, and no obvious change in materials. It represents the period of significance, 1890-1920, when Bainbridge was thriving and dependent on waterborne transportation.
With four bedrooms and one bathroom, the house has 1500 square feet on the ground floor and 1100 square feet on the second floor, for a total of 2600 square feet of space. Two porches add another 575 square feet of protected outdoor space. The inside especially has avoided the pressures of changing styles, boasting exceptional pocket doors at the entry vestibule at 7’ wide by 8’ tall. When open, they create one large room in the front. Other items that have survived intact include the ceiling light fixtures and the original door bell.
