We have officially relocated our administrative offices to a newly repurposed building on the east side of Strawberry Hill Park. This move marks a significant milestone in the Park District’s ongoing efforts to improve facilities for staff and better serve the community.

The new office at 7686 High School Road is part of a larger expansion of Strawberry Hill Park, which received a $1.1 million grant from the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation in April 2024. This grant funded the acquisition of a nine-acre parcel formerly owned by Comcast, located along High School Road. The lightly wooded property expands the park’s footprint, bringing its total size to 38 acres.

The newly repurposed office building was originally Northland Cable and later the Bainbridge Island Broadcasting station. The structure was initially deemed unsuitable for renovation. After acquiring the property, the Park District realized it was salvageable. They successfully revitalized the building to accommodate its administrative needs, making efficient use of the available resources.

“This is a great example of how we can make the most of what’s available,” said Dan Hamlin, Executive Director of the Bainbridge Island Park & Recreation District. “By repurposing this building, we’ve not only saved resources but also created a more functional and expansive space for our staff, which will help us serve the public more effectively.”

Customer service for the Park District will continue to be available at the Aquatic Center and the Bainbridge Island Recreation Center. The move to the new office is part of the broader development plan for Strawberry Hill Park, which also includes the acquisition of a 10-acre parcel in 2022 for the future Strawberry Hill Bike Park and an expanded dog park.

“We are excited to support the continued growth of Strawberry Hill Park,” said Mary Meier, Executive Director of the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation. “Our donors play a crucial role in making these projects possible, and the expansion of this beloved park will benefit generations of Bainbridge Islanders.”
