Perched on a hillside overlooking the south side of Eagle Harbor, Eagledale Park is a seven-acre community space with a rich history and remarkable views. As part of the Cold War-era Project Nike anti-aircraft missile system — a nationwide defense network built to protect key military assets from potential air attacks — the park still carries quiet reminders of its military past. Though the radar towers and missiles are long gone, the story remains an important chapter in Bainbridge Island’s history.
Eagledale Pottery Studio is nestled within a historic World War II-era cinderblock building. Today, it is home to a thriving community of ceramic artists and hobbyists of all ages and abilities. From beginners learning to center clay to experienced potters refining their craft, the studio offers a creative space where art and community meet.
The former military site has been thoughtfully transformed into a vibrant neighborhood gathering place. At its heart is the Eagledale Picnic Shelter, a 25-by-36-foot covered structure designed for community use. With seven picnic tables, two BBQ grills, water, electricity, nearby restrooms, and 18 parking spaces, the shelter offers a functional and welcoming space for everything from casual gatherings to special celebrations.
Beyond its picnic shelter, Eagledale Park invites visitors to enjoy tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, a children’s playground, a labyrinth walk, and an off-leash dog park. One of the highest points on Bainbridge Island, on clear days, the park offers a breathtaking view of Mount Rainier, making it a favorite spot for photographers, dog walkers, and anyone seeking a moment of quiet reflection.
With its layered history, modern amenities, and spectacular views, Eagledale Park continues Bainbridge Island’s tradition of preserving spaces that foster connection, recreation, and creativity.
