As summer winds down, Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District’s Park Services team is hard at work preparing for the changing season. With cooler weather and falling leaves on the horizon, crews are shifting gears to ensure our parks remain safe, functional, and beautiful throughout the autumn season.
The Trails team will begin cutting back overgrown vegetation and clearing fallen leaves to keep paths safe and accessible for walkers, runners, and bikers. This seasonal trail maintenance ensures our outdoor spaces stay enjoyable even as the weather changes. We’re also hoping to sneak in one more trail build – stay tuned!
Volunteer work parties are returning this fall after a full summer of Student Conservation Corps (SCoCo). These volunteer opportunities are a great way to get involved in community stewardship—visit biparks.org/volunteers to learn how you can lend a hand!
The Grounds team will begin “putting the fields to bed,” a process that includes final mowing, aeration, and fertilization to support healthy turf in the spring. Crews will also tackle leaf cleanup to maintain safe and tidy park spaces.
Meanwhile, Facilities and Maintenance staff are wrapping up Capital Improvement Projects before the rainy season sets in. Highlights include newly installed roofs at the Battle Point and Eagledale Park shelters—just in time to keep our community dry during fall and winter gatherings.
And don’t forget—fall also brings one of our most beloved traditions: Haunted Hayride! Both the Parks and Recreation divisions are teaming up once again to bring spooky fun to the community. Stay tuned for event details and tickets.
Whether it’s trail work, facility upgrades, or community events, Park Services is committed to keeping our parks safe, welcoming, and ready for the season ahead.
