Dear Community,
May always reminds me of how quickly the seasons shift. Here at the Park District we’re hard at work preparing parks & recreation programs for the summer season. This year, May also holds special significance: May 25 marks the 60th anniversary of the vote to approve the formation of your Park District.
It’s fitting that we’re also updating the Comprehensive Plan, a vital roadmap that guides how we grow, serve, and steward our public spaces. You can find key dates and updates on the plan here. We invite you to engage with the process—your voice shapes the future of parks and programs.
May also signals the official countdown to summer, one of our team’s most exciting and energizing times. Staff are already deep into preparations for summer camps and activities, and welcome seasonal employees to help us meet the moment. Summer work at the Park District is more than a job; it’s an opportunity to grow, serve, and find connection.
I remember my first job out of high school—working park maintenance for the City of Stayton, Oregon. That experience sparked my love of public service and parks and gave me a front-row seat to the impact thoughtful stewardship can have on a community. I’ve seen this same effect on countless others who’ve started careers here, from lifeguards and parks services crews to camp counselors. These roles often become stepping stones to lifelong purpose.
So, whether you’re a young person looking for meaningful work or considering a new path, I encourage you to explore the career opportunities available with us this summer and beyond. You might find something that changes your life.
Here’s to warmer days ahead, renewed energy, and shared commitment to the places and people that make Bainbridge Island special.
Warmly,
Dan Hamlin, Executive Director
